During the 1980’s most American families went through a home decorating phase which became known as country style homes. Homes had wood paneling or wood plaques on the walls, ruffled curtains, pine furniture with the buffet dresser becoming a necessary item of furniture. Floors were covered with braided rugs and bookcases were decorated with mice, ducks and rabbits, usually wearing clothes. A house decorated in this manner was comfortable, informal, practical and typified the average American family.
Since the 1980’s there have been many changes in interior design fashion and many different materials used for flooring, surfaces and furniture, but the country home style has lasted all this time and is still as popular as ever. The pine furniture has withstood the test of time, but there have been some additions of decor. Country style homes now includes many wooden pieces, not just pine including oak, walnut and maple and distressed wood is all the rage.
As with all home decorating projects you need to set a budget and stick to it. A home decorators collection will give you great inspiration and will help you plan your space before you go to a store and become confused with sizes, colors and styles. The best thing to remember is to keep it plain and simple, uncluttered and organized as your space can get cluttered very easily when you add the finishing touches with baskets, candles, antiques, those cute mice and rabbits.
Country style homes can be similar to Colonial style, however the main difference is the choices in colors are lighter and furniture is simpler. Organic materials have become very popular and even though floral, plaids and gingham are still used, most decorators prefer textured materials and plainer colors with simple patterns. Interior Designers suggest that you choose a simple base color from which you can add one or two more complementary colors and then an accent color. Anything more than that will look overdone and mismatched.
Once you have decided your color scheme, furniture pieces and the items for the finishing touches you can then set about organizing your area. Baskets are great for hiding everyday knick knacks in which you use regularly but will look cluttered and unorganized out in the open for all to see. Arrange your ornaments neatly, with even numbers being the best grouping as even numbers will look too symmetrical.
However you choose to decorate your home there are many ideas and trends waiting to emerge. You need to decorate your house according to how you use your space, who lives there and what you like. Whatever them you choose to go with, take the time to plan and enjoy your home decorating ideas.
